Our Collaborators
Columbus Choral Society
The Columbus Choral Society of Columbus. Mississippi, was founded in 2009 with the mission to bring quality choral music to the local area. Now under the direction of Creighton Holder, the CCS offers free public concerts twice a year, in addition to making appearances at area churches, festivals, and civic group meetings.
In its short history, accomplishments of note include performing John Purifoy’s New York City premiere of “Chronicles of Blue and Gray” both at Carnegie Hall in 2014 and again in Columbus, MS the spring of 2015.
Columbus Sings Messiah
The Columbus Sings Messiah choir, composed of 120 volunteer singers, gathers in Annunciation Catholic church, humming and singing to warm up their vocal chords. Orchestra members tune and warm up their instruments in turn.
The group will have one chance to rehearse George Handel’s “Messiah,” an oratorio composed in 1741 recounting the story of the life of Christ. Less than 24 hours later, the choir will present the story to an audience of hundreds.
While this time crunch may be intimidating for some performers, Columbus Sings Messiah founder James Allen said this quick turnaround is just a normal part of the choir’s annual presentation, which will be returning to the city for the 21st time at 7 p.m. Tuesday night.
